Procurement

  • Function: Responsible for sourcing and purchasing fresh produce from farmers. This involves building relationships with suppliers, negotiating prices, and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality produce.
  • Key Activities: Farmer outreach, contract negotiations, quality inspections, inventory management

Quality Control

  • Function: Ensures that all produce meets strict quality standards and safety regulations. This involves conducting rigorous inspections at various stages, from the farm to the point of export.
  • Key Activities: Pre-harvest inspections, post-harvest handling, laboratory testing, certification processes (e.g., GlobalGAP).

Logistics

  • Function: Manages the transportation and delivery of the produce from the farms to the export destinations. This includes coordinating with transportation companies, customs clearance, and ensuring timely and efficient delivery.
  • Key Activities: Freight forwarding, customs documentation, cold chain management, transport route planning.

Receiving

  • Function: Responsible for the physical receipt and inspection of all incoming produce from farmers or suppliers. This involves verifying quantities, assessing quality against agreed-upon standards, and ensuring proper documentation and storage.
  • Key Activities: Receiving and unloading produce, conducting quality inspections, verifying quantities and documentation, updating inventory records, coordinating with procurement and logistics departments.

Processing

  • Function: Responsible for any value-added processing of fresh produce before export. This could include activities like washing, sorting, grading, sizing, packaging, and potentially some forms of minimal processing like cutting or slicing.
  • Key Activities: Produce washing and sanitization, sorting and grading, size and weight standardization, packaging and labeling, ensuring food safety and hygiene standards.

Dispatch

  • Function: Responsible for the final stage of the export process, ensuring the timely and accurate shipment of orders to customers. This involves coordinating with logistics providers, preparing export documentation, and overseeing the loading and departure of shipments.
  • Key Activities: Order fulfillment, preparing shipping documents (e.g., invoices, packing lists, phytosanitary certificates), coordinating with freight forwarders, supervising loading and transportation, tracking shipments, communicating with customers regarding shipment status.
